606 Old County Road Rockland, ME 04841

Rockland Golf Club opened in 1916 as Knox County Golf Course. At that time it was a 9- hole golf course. Its original designer is unknown. In 1932 Wayne Stiles, a Boston based architect rebuilt the 9-hole 2,400-yard layout into a 3,100-yard layout. Finally, in 1964-65 Roger Sorrent, a Rockland based architect, built the back 9 holes on the property of the Bartlett family farm. At the same time he made improvements to the front 9. Today, the front 9 is wooded, while the back 9 is wide open and overlooks Lake Chickawaukie. The first hole has an ocean view of the Rockland breakwater and lighthouse. Rockland Golf Club is currently an 18-hole par 70 golf course for men and a par 73 for ladies. The golf course measures a total of 5023 from the red tees, 5023 gold tees, 5773 from the white tees, and 6041 from the blue tees. Major improvements have been made to improve the playing conditions, including high tech irrigation system that gives Rockland Golf Club some of the best putting surfaces in the state. In 2019 Golf Advisor rated Rockland Golf Club #2 Best Golf Course in the State of Maine and #20 in New England.
